Intramural Girls Softball 2017

Softball is offered for girls ages 5 and up. The goal of these programs is for the children to have fun while learning the fundamentals of fastpitch softball.

Each player will receive a shirt that they can keep. Bats and helmets are provided, but players can bring their own. Each player will need to provide their own glove.

Pixie Softball:

Ages: 6-8 (as of 1/1)  Girls cannot be 9 before Jan. 1st.

Fee: $45.00

Practices: Approximately two times a week starting in late March.

Games: Approximately 2 times per week from late April through mid June.

This is a coach pitch level in which all players are provided an equal opportunity to bat and play the field. No standings are kept in order to emphasize skill development and the learning of the game.

Pony Softball:

Ages: 9-10 (as of 1/1) Girls cannot be 11 before Jan. 1st.

Fee: $60.00

Practices: Approximately two to three times a week starting in late March.

Games: Approximately 2 times per week from late April through mid June.

This level is designed to bridge the gap from Pixies to A’s softball. Kids will get their first experience facing live pitching and learning to pitch. While ASA rules are used as a guide, there are several adaptations made to ensure the focus of the program remains on learning and the development of a complete softball player. No standings are kept, but an end of the year tournament will be held.

A’s Softball:

Ages: 11-13 (as of 1/1).  Girls cannot be 14 before Jan. 1st.

According to league rules girls who play for travel teams can not play in the intramural league. However, these girls are still encouraged to sign up so that we can account for them in the event the travel team does not work out for them.

Fee: $60.00

Practices: 2-3 times per week starting late March.

Games: 2-3 games per week from late April through mid June. There are league playoffs and an All-Star game that take place at the end of June.

Teams will play in the East Penn Girls Softball League. The focus of this level is to get the girls playing real softball. The majority of the ASA rules are used as well as ASA umpires. Scores and standings are kept at this level. The entire team is placed in the batting order and each player must play at least two defensive innings.

Fall Softball:

Ages: Although the same 1/1 cut off date is used for the previous Spring, girls are encouraged to play at the level they will be at the following Spring.

Fee: $40

Mission: Fall softball is designed to prepare girls for the upcoming Spring season. The main purpose is instruction and to get girls used to softball at the next level.

League: Teams will play in the East Penn League.

Practices: Teams generally practice one or two nights per week.

Games: Games are generally on Saturday or Sunday afternoons.
